Sir Iftikhar Ahmad Ayaz KBE OBE is a globally recognized humanitarian, educationist, and environmental advocate who has devoted his life to the service of humanity, the promotion of peace, and the defense of human rights. With a distinguished career that spans continents and causes, Sir Iftikhar Ayaz stands as a beacon of integrity, compassion, and tireless commitment to justice and global well-being.
Currently serving as the Honorary Consul for Tuvalu to the United Kingdom, Sir Iftikhar is based in London and is an influential voice in the international community. He has been instrumental in raising global awareness about the devastating effects of climate change on island nations, especially Tuvalu, which faces the existential threat of submersion due to rising sea levels. His diplomatic efforts emphasize not just relocation, but climate justice, sustainability, and the preservation of national identity and culture.
A Legacy of Education and Public Service
Born in Qadian, India, and later raised in Tanzania, Sir Iftikhar Ayaz began his journey in public service as an education officer in the Tanzanian government. With a background in teaching and school inspection, he played a pivotal role in developing English-medium education across the country. His academic journey brought him to the UK, where he earned a master’s degree in linguistics, followed by doctorates in human development and education.

From his earliest years, education and service were in his blood. His father, Mukhtar Ahmad Ayaz, was a pioneer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at movement, which instilled in him a deep commitment to peace, tolerance, and humanitarian values.
Voice for the Voiceless
Sir Iftikhar has worked with several United Nations organizations, including the UN Working Group on the Rights of Minorities, UNESCO, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). He has addressed global forums such as the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), passionately advocating for the rights of religious minorities and marginalized communities.
He has especially championed the plight of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan, calling for their right to freely practice their faith and participate in the democratic process. His activism is guided by a firm belief in freedom of religion, universal human rights, and dignity for all people.
